How long until the contraceptive pill is effective?

Ultimately, it depends on the type of contraceptive pill you have been prescribed. It is advised that you confirm your contraceptive pill’s effective date with your assigned Partner Doctor directly during your initial consultation.

The majority of contraceptive pills take between 1-2 weeks to become effective, however, it is advisable that you and your partner use a backup form of contraception like condoms to ensure you are fully protected, during the first two weeks of use.

Please refer to your prescribed medication’s informational pamphlet for further information specific to your brand of pill.
