How effective is the contraceptive pill?

Contraceptive pills are over 99% effective when taken as prescribed.

The more consistent you are at taking your pills, the more effective the medication will be. We understand that it can be hard to take a pill at the same time every day, however, if you don’t, the contraceptive pill is only up to 91% effective.

Individuals who miss a pill should use physical methods of birth control, such as condoms, for at least seven days. Doing so ensures that hormones return to levels that minimise the risk of pregnancy.

Before beginning your prescribed contraceptive pill please make sure you read the informational pamphlet provided with your medication.
