Can certain foods worsen acne?

Certain research indicates that high-glycemic foods*, dairy products, and foods containing saturated and trans fats might worsen acne for some people. Nevertheless, the connection between diet and acne can differ from one individual to another.

*High-glycemic foods are those that cause a rapid increase in blood sugar levels after consumption. These foods typically have a high glycemic index (GI), a scale that ranks carbohydrates based on how quickly they raise blood glucose levels.
