# What is Acid Reflux? 
Acid reflux, also known as gastroesophageal reflux (GER) or heartburn, is a condition characterized by the backward flow of stomach acid into the esophagus. 

**This can cause symptoms such as:**
* Burning sensation in the chest (heartburn), 
* Regurgitation of acidic fluid into the mouth and 
* Discomfort or pain in the chest or upper abdomen.
