# What are phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitors?

PDE5 inhibitors are the standard medications used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). 

PDE5 inhibitors work by relaxing the blood vessels, allowing the blood to flow more easily to the penis resulting in, and sustaining, an erection.
